Sarking, insulation and plumbing

What's sarking, ask the kids?

It's like a raincoat, I say. It keeps the house warm and dry.

Just in time, it seems, only days ahead of Brisbane's worst storm in two decades and a week of storms bringing near record November falls (as at Nov 21 Redcliffe had already received 251mm for the month, compared to the monthly mean of 101.8mm and last November's rainfall of just 39mm).

So now we have sarking in both the roof and the walls, as well as insulation in the eastern and western walls. We are quite well protected from the western sun by the rock wall and from the southerlies by the house next door, but I hope the insulation in the lounge will improve the efficiency of our sole air conditioner, and the insulation at the front of the house will protect from winter's cold southerlies and long mornings of summer sun.

The start of Week 7 of construction also saw the plumbing installed. There was a glitch in the position of one of the taps, but luckily I was onsite when the subbie came back and was able to get it fixed quickly and easily.

The outdoor tap goes behind the wall of the alfresco, through the ceiling, to the opposite side of the house!
